  • Austrian/Swiss character actor, born in the U.S. and on stage there from 1892. Moved to Austria four years later and became an ensemble member of the Vienna Burtgtheater (until 1913). Subsequently alternated stage performances on Broadway with appearances in Berlin, Zurich and Vienna. Began acting in German-speaking silent films from 1917 and remained gainfully employed playing prosperous members of society or noblemen, until resettling permanently in the U.S. in 1929.
