- Maro Kontou is a Greek actress known for her work in theatre, film, and television, with a career spanning more than three decades. She appeared in 61 feature films and over 90 theatrical productions, performing in both Greek and international repertoire. She began her professional career in 1954 as part of the National Theatre of Greece and made her stage debut in 1959 alongside Dimitris Horn. In addition to acting, Kontou studied dance at the State School of Dance and later graduated from the University of Athens with a degree in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. She also explored painting and held a solo exhibition in 1993. On television, she has appeared in numerous series from the 1970s to the present, including To louna park (1974), Kai oi tesseris itan yperohes (1992), and The Land of the Olive Tree (2021). Kontou has also been active in public service, serving as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament and as a city councilor of Athens. She held leadership roles such as president of the municipal radio station Athens 9.84 and of the Mitera Infant Center.
