William C. Knight was a lighting director who served as such on Sesame Street from seasons 11 through 14, as well as on A Special Sesame Street Christmas. Like several of his fellow Sesame lighting directors, Knight worked for Imero Fiorentino Associates, Inc. during his time on the show. In 1981, Knight won a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on Sesame Street (shared with David M. Clark) and was nominated for another in 1983, both among eight total Emmy nominations including another win.

Knight was lighting director for NBC from 1948 to 1961, working on Sing Along with Mitch, The Colgate Comedy Hour, Kraft Television Theatre, and other programs. From there, he worked for Intertel in Europe, lighting German television productions until 1964, when he joined IFA.

Other lighting credits include episodes of the TV series NET Playhouse, Faerie Tale Theatre, Great Performances, and Kate & Allie (starring Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin), a 1970 TV adaptation of George M! (with Joel Grey, Bernadette Peters, Red Buttons, and Anita Gillette), and concert specials starring Barbra Streisand, Elvis Presley, Carole King, and Neil Diamond.
