In 1965 Kenneth King changed his name to Jonathan and wrote and recorded the song Everyone's Gone To The Moon which became a hit around the world selling 4.9 million copies of the vinyl single. He then wrote and produced another hit - It's Good News Week, which he recorded with the band Hedgehoppers Anonymous, which also became a hit. Since then he has written, recorded, sang or produced many other hits ranging from his own recordings (of which the most successful were Una Paloma Blanca and Hooked On A Feeling) under a variety of names and pseudonyms, as well as discovering, naming and producing such acts as Genesis, 10cc and The Bay City Rollers.

He went on to become a stage and screen producer, backing and producing the original Rocky Horror Show, making films such as Vile Pervert: The Musical and Me Me Me, and writing books including his own autobiographies 65 My Life So Far and 70 FFFY.

His mainstream media career effectively ended when he was convicted of sexually abusing teenage boys in September 2001 and imprisoned for a total of seven years. He was released in March 2005.
When he was a young man at Charterhouse school in England, he had a budding music career. He was known as a big man on campus, who was looked up to by amateur musicians. Through his Charterhouse connection, he subsequently discovered and named the band Genesis. After a very short run as their manager and producer, he passed them along to his friend Tony Stratton-Smith's management company. The band went on to become a huge success many years later, spawning the careers of Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Mike + The Mechanics, all of whom topped the American singles chart.
He was presented with the Music Industry Trusts' Award in 1997 for his outstanding contribution to the British music industry.
He produced the first Genesis album, "From Genesis to Revelation", and his company still owns the rights to it. Despite naming the band and securing their first recording deal, he earns nothing from subsequent Genesis releases. He also produced the original soundtrack album for and financially backed Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show in 1972. One of his associate companies, Bocu, publishes ABBA.
His mother was the stage actress Ailsa Linley King.

Celebrity provokes fantasies, particularly when guided by saturation coverage in the media. The tabloids are 99% entertainment, 1% information. It seems the mere mention of my name provokes hysteria. The truth is, being described as a 'vile pervert' means absolutely nothing to me.
I've found prison a most enlightening, enjoyable and fascinating experience. Like boarding school without the sex. There's a whole world in there, packed with nice, horrid, average and extraordinary people, a way of life unknown to the majority of us.
You meet fascinating people and get to see the other side of the world, one that you never knew existed. Like most people, I had the view that once the prison gate slams shut, hell takes place, but the reality couldn't be further from the truth. I have had no complaints at all about my time inside, apart from the food at Broadmoor.
I've had a brilliant three-and-a-half years for crimes I did not commit. I'm innocent of the charges against me. There is no issue of the acts being consensual, there were no acts. However much people try, you can't bend the truth. There's no truth in the offenses whatsoever. One of the five men I am accused of abusing I have never even met and there is no evidence I ever did meet him.
