Streaming Stars, Then and Now

Mike Kimmel is an experienced actor, public speaker, playwright, teacher and audition coach. He is a twenty-plus year member of SAG-AFTRA with extensive experience in both the New York and Los Angeles markets. He has worked with directors Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Townsend, Craig Shapiro, and Christopher Cain among many others. TV credits include Game of Silence, Zoo, Treme, In Plain Sight, Cold Case, Breakout Kings, Memphis Beat, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was a regular sketch comedy player on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for eleven years.

Mike has performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages, and trained with Michael Shurtleff, William Hickey, Ralph Marrero, Gloria Maddox, Harold Sylvester, Wendy Davis, Amy Hunter, Bob Collier, and Stuart Robinson. He has a B.A. from Brandeis University and an M.A. from California State University at Dominguez Hills.

Mike has been on faculty at Upper Iowa University, University of New Orleans, University of Phoenix, Glendale Community College, Nunez Community College, Delgado Community College, and has taught in the Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Burbank, California public schools. He is a two-time past president of New Orleans Toastmasters, the public speaking organization, and often serves as a speech contest judge. He is the 2014 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from Upper Iowa University, and the author of several books for actors of all ages: Scenes for Teens, Monologues for Teens, Acting Scenes for Kids and Tweens, Monologues for Kids and Tweens, Monologues for Adults and four additional titles.

When working on your own projects, don&#39;t rush the process. Resist the temptation to do things quickly. Try instead to do them masterfully.

I&#39;ve always felt that writers are the unsung heroes of show business. Writers are not just technicians who churn out printed pages - any more than actors are technicians who give voices to the characters on those pages.

My earliest training was in theater, and I believe repetition and constant practice is vitally important when rehearsing a role. Working a scene over and over helps the actor discover layers and nuances in the character. There are no boring characters out there. It&#39;s an actor&#39;s job to delve deeply, however, discover what makes each character tick, and invest something unique from his or her own background into every new role.

Don&#39;t overestimate the rest of the world and underestimate yourself.

Whatever your gift may be, always remember that someone in this world needs what you have to offer. You don&#39;t have the right to keep your gifts and talents to yourself.

I like to begin work on my books early, and 4:00 AM seems to be my sweet spot. At 4:00 AM, I can get a good deal of work done before the rest of the world knows I&#39;m awake.

Personally, I never bought into the idea of the &quot;starving artist.&quot; I believe we live in an abundant world, and Our Creator did not put us here to putter around, struggle, complain, and bemoan our fate.
