Biography

James Killough is an award-winning writer-director-producer based in Los Angeles. He began his career as the only American screenwriter in Bollywood, when he was tapped by legendary director Muzaffar Ali to script 'Zooni,' starring Dimple Kapadia ('Tenet'), the biggest Indian production at the time. His script for Pamela Rook's 'Miss Beatty's Children' helped the film win the Film Festival of India's top prize in 1993. That same year, James hosted the first televised Miss India Pageant, viewed by hundreds of millions around the world. His medium-length film 'Losing Her," starring Catherine Walker ('Versailles'), was screened at major festivals, and installed in a special exhibition in the main hall of the Tate Britain Museum in 2008. His work has been taught at NYU and Columbia film schools, and published in various publications, including The New York Times and Travel & Leisure.

James has expanded his career-long working relationship with Asia to include China, through his creative partnership with acclaimed cinematographer-director Rain Li. His Substack newsletter, Quibbler's & Scribblers, was launched in February 2023. Having been called "refreshingly forthright" by The Wall Street Journal's film critic Kyle Smith, ChatGPT's independent assessment of James overall is "that his work has been noted for its unconventional and thought-provoking approach to social issues.
