Mini bio

  • Taka Higuchi is one of Japan's most distinguished actors, born in Osaka, Japan. He is the son of the legendary referee Joe Higuchi, a monumental figure who supported the golden age of Japanese professional wrestling.

At age 18, Higuchi moved to the United States. After studying at the University of Hawaii, he enrolled as a psychology major at the City University of New York (CUNY). During his time in New York, he pursued his passion for acting and trained under the legendary Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.

Upon returning to Japan in 1982, he was discovered by the late Kirin Kiki, a world-renowned Japanese actress, and began his professional career. In his late 20s, he joined "Engeki Shudan En" (Theater Group 'En'), one of Japan’s most prestigious theater companies. He gained critical acclaim after being cast as Stanley in "A Streetcar Named Desire", starring opposite the late Kyoko Kishida. His powerful performances in various leading roles solidified his reputation as a versatile and formidable stage actor.

After leaving the company, Higuchi expanded his career into television and film. In 1993, he was handpicked for the role of Ken Saito in the iconic "Georgia" coffee commercial series directed by David Lynch. Though produced as a series of commercials, these films are celebrated by the global Twin Peaks community as a canonical "lost mini-series," and Higuchi remains a beloved figure among the franchise's international fan base.

In 2001, he achieved widespread popularity for his portrayal of Kaoru Kino/Another Agito in "Kamen Rider Agito", a landmark work in Japan's legendary Tokusatsu superhero franchise. Beyond his television success, he has spent many years as a primary co-star for Japanese cultural icons and "grand masters," including Akihiro Miwa and the Living National Treasure Kabuki actor Tamasaburo Bando.

Since his 50s, Higuchi has further diversified his career as a creator, writing and directing films while actively appearing in international productions across India and the United States. Currently, he remains active as a creator and performer while dedicating himself to cultivating the next generation of young Japanese actors at the "Actor's Training Centre", an acting school he founded in 2002.
