- I suffered deeply from the absence of a father. Scrawny, ragged, and perpetually hungry, I thought of only one thing: 'If Dad were alive, everything would be different for us'. It is very hard for boys to grow up without fathers; a mother's upbringing cannot replace a father's, and besides, our mothers toiled from morning till night. So we grew up on the streets - which, in essence, raised us. We got up to all sorts of mischief.
