Biography

John Kieran was born on August 2, 1892 in New York City, New York, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Birds Make Sport (1946), Ant City (1949) and Kieran's Kaleidoscope (1949). He was married to Margaret Ford and Alma Boldtmann. He died on December 9, 1981 in Rockport, Massachusetts, USA.

An accomplished ornithologist and naturalist, Kieran was head of the National Audubon Society for a number of years.

He worked for the New York Times, New York Herald Tribune, two Hearst papers and the New York Sun.

Before hosting the television show, Kieran was a panelist on NBC Radio's "Information, Please" during the forties.

Recipient of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award (presented to a writer for meritorious contributions to baseball writing) in 1973.

Attended Fordham University and the College of the City of New York. In college, he was on the baseball and swimming teams.
