Recorded a series of albums reading his own works; one with musician and TV host Steve Allen, another with jazz greats Al Cohn and Zoot Sims, and another on his own. Not selling well at first, the albums became sought-after collectibles later, with even bootleg copies fetching over $100, until they were reissued (with full remastering, liner notes, and bonus tracks) by Rhino Records in the 1990s.

(1959) Album: "Poetry for the Beat Generation" (Dot Records). NOTE: After Dot Records had released little more than 100 copies, it stopped pressing the record and sold it to Hanover Records; Dot's president decided the album was "off-color" and that he didn't want his company to be associated with it.
