Before writing books, she worked as a journalist, and became the editor in chief of Jazz & Pop, a rock magazine, at age 22.

In June 1970, she was handfasted in a Celtic Pagan marriage ceremony to rock singer and songwriter Jim Morrison.

Wrote a book about (primarily) her years with Jim Morrison, called "Strange Days: My Life With and Without Jim Morrison" (1992).
