William Kendis was the son of Anastasios Kaleviano and Irene Karakitsos Lambrou, born in Greece. He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on May 27, 1916. Various spellings may be found for the family name, such as Kalivianos or Kalevianou. "William" was taken as a first name by 1940 when he registered for the American military draft. His birth name has been seen as 'Philios' and 'Philias'. His father died in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1970.
