Amos Kenan was born on 2 May 1927 in Tel Aviv, Palestine [now Tel Aviv, Israel]. He was a writer and actor, known for Ha-Derech L'Ein Harod (1990), Hole in the Moon (1964) and Florentine (1997). He was married to Nurit Gertz. He died on 4 August 2009 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

He was a painter, sculptor, film director, and writer of books, plays, and newspaper columns, many of which satirized the Israeli government.

He was part of the founding generation of the modern state of Israel. His writings and art helped to define Israeli culture.
