Biography

Daron Keet

Overview

  • Born
    Los Angeles, California, USA

Biography

  • South African-born Daron Keet is an award-winning Los Angeles-based cinematographer, who moves seamlessly between commercials and feature films.

His cinematography work on the short film Ripple Effect won 1st Place for best cinematography at the International Cinematographers Guilds Emerging Cinematographers Award.

He began his career in South Africa on The Gods Must Be Crazy II, and then went on to work with Velocity Film's director Keith Rose on award-winning spots in the early 90s. He continued honing his craft on international features, assisting Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond on The Ghost and The Darkness and Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey.

Daron enjoys collaborations that seek to capture those un-recreatable "lighting in a bottle" moments; those happy accidents that result in cinematic magic. He relies heavily on in-camera technique to achieve the most nuanced yet appropriate visual style.

He is an expert on lens bokeh, and is particularly fond of weaving extreme slow motion, technocrane, motion control, aerial, underwater and time-lapse cinematography into his work.

When he is not working he spends time with his wife and kids, and plays squash & golf with friends.
