Kay is in remission (since 2011) following a battle with kidney cancer.

Best remembered for her roles on the television series Eight Is Enough (1977) and Steven Spielberg's period comedy 1941 (1979).

Shares an alma mater with Steven Spielberg and Lynda Carter: they all attended Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Spielberg directed her in 1941 (1979).

As of 2015, she was living in Pacific Palisades as Dianne Kay Silvera.

Dianne Kay's likeness appears in Murder, She Wrote, "Hooray for Homicide" (S1, E3), in the form of the fictional movie poster, "Vampire Cheerleaders," that was used during her guest-starring role on Simon & Simon, "The Wrong Stuff" (S3, E17), that aired eight months before.

At age 13, she began acting in local children's theater in Phoenix. She graduated in 1975 from the University of Arizona at Tucson with a B.S. in Mass Communications and in her senior year, she worked at KGUN-TV as an intern in programming and promotion. She moved to Los Angeles in 1976 and almost immediately began to win guest television roles.

In 1978, she was engaged to Kevin Inch but it was broken off.

She played a character with the surname Douglas in the movie 1941 (1979) (Betty Douglas) and the television series Glitter (1984) (as "Jennifer Douglas").
