She was the daughter of Michi and Akira Kawamura.

Was the widow of Theodore Burton Kroesen and had one daughter with him, Claire Tatsumi Stucklen.

Was a big fan of Elvis Presley and his music.

Had two pets, Ginger the dog and Four Paws the cat.

One of her hobbies included swimming in the Santa Monica Breakwater Ocean Swim wearing a colorful one-piece bathing suit and flashy yellow swim cap. At 73 at the time, she was the oldest swimmer in the local area.

After she briefly retired in 1986, Kawamura joined the Southern California Aquatic Masters swim team, training to swim properly by swimming efficiently and avoiding injuries. She later began to enter competitions.

Spoke fluent English and Japanese.

Did not start acting until she was 72.
