The father of Kimi Katkar operated as a junior artiste supplier within the Indian film industry. Katkar reportedly never established personal contact with him during her professional or private life. Industry accounts frequently cite an unverified familial link suggesting her father and Sadiq Ali, the father of Reena Roy, were brothers. Sadiq Ali maintained a dual professional capacity as a small-time actor and a part-time junior artiste supplier.

Katkar retired from the film industry following the release of Humlaa (1992). The production of Hum (1991) served as her final major career milestone, featuring the "Jumma Chumma De De" musical sequence filmed with Amitabh Bachchan. Katkar subsequently relocated to Melbourne, Australia, following her domestic transition.

Kimi Katkar declined casting offers for the films Parampara (1993) and King Uncle (1993) during the final quarter of her active filmography. These refusals coincided with her decision to terminate her professional acting career following her marriage to photographer Shantanu Sheorey in 1992.

Kimi Katkar is the daughter of actress and costume designer Tina Katkar. Tina Katkar, often referred to as Meena Fernandez during her screen career, appeared in several mid-century productions, including Sujata (1959), Anari (1959), and Milaap (1955).
