Anurag Singh Kashyap (born 10 September 1972) is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter. Kashyap made his directorial debut with as yet unreleased Paanch, with Kay Kay Menon as the lead. As a filmmaker, he is known for Black Friday (2004), a controversial and award-winning Hindi film about the 1993 Mumbai bombings, followed by No Smoking (2007), Dev D (2009), Gulaal (2009), That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). As a screenwriter, he wrote the scripts for the Filmfare Award-winning Satya (1998) and the Academy Award-nominated Canadian film Water (2005). He founded his film production company, Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd. in 2009.

Anurag Kashyap was suppose to direct Tere Naam when Sanjay Kapoor was in the lead..When new producer's came in ,they signed Salman Khan. Anurag did not see Salman as a guy from a small town . He asked Salman to grow his chest hair for the role. The next day Anurag was thrown out from the film.
Real name is Rinku Singh. It was changed to Anurag Kashyap during the Emergency in India.
Vishal Bhardwaj stated " It was Anurag Kashyap who told me to watch Throne of Blood. That's when the idea of Maqbool unfolded. I placed Macbeth's characters in Mumbai. Anurag did a cameo of a dead body in the film.
In 2009 he was planning a autobiography on actor director Guru Dutt. Aamir Khan was approached for the lead role and agreed. The film was eventually shelved.
Anurag stated " I also worked with Vidhu Vinod Chopra on Mission Kashmir, but left the project mid-way. Hrithik Roshan had become a big star by then and the filmmakers wanted to incorporate changes in the script to suit his new-found status. I did not agree so I left. But they did give me a credit.".
