Biography

Hellmuth Karasek was born on January 4, 1934 in Brno, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. He was an actor and director, known for Theater und Gesellschaft - Rollenbilder im Wandel der Jahrhunderte (1966), Max Horkheimer: Porträt eines Aufklärers (1969) and Das literarische Quartett (1988). He was married to Armgard Seegers-Karasek and Marvela Ines Mejia-Perez. He died on September 29, 2015 in Hamburg, Germany.

German journalist and literary critic, best known for being a permanent cast member of Das literarische Quartett (1988).

After working for "Der Spiegel" magazine from 1974 to 1996, he was co-publisher of the Berlin daily "Der Tagesspiegel" until 2004.

Left East Germany in the early 1950s and studied at the University of Tübingen.

Has four children.
