Nikolay Karachentsov was one of the most popular Russian actors, known for his intense dramatic roles. His mother was a ballet dancer. As a child, Nikolay's favorite activity was reading - he read even by nights, disguised under a blanket with a flashlight. He became popular in 1974 after playing starring in "Til" drama at Lenkom theatre. He was well-known for his incredible will and ability to work 18-20 hours a day; "I can't do my job another way", he said. His son Andrey studied at the Institute of International Relationships in Moscow.

Nikolay Karachentsov is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, People's Artist of the Russian SFSR.

In 1963, Nikolay entered the Moscow Art Theatre School (course of Viktor Monyukov), which he graduated with honors in 1967. Karachentsov was among the ten best students assigned to the Lenin Komsomol Theatre (since 1991 - 'Lenkom'). Karachentsov's most famous theatrical work is the role of Count Rezanov in the rock opera Yunona i Avos (1983) - a performance that became the hallmark of the Lenkom Theatre. In 1983, the performance was recorded for television broadcast and in the same year, the famous French couturier Pierre Cardin presented the performance to the French public at the Espace Cardin theater in Paris, followed by triumphant tours around the world. Karachentsov became one of the leading actors of Lenkom, director Mark Zakharov involved him in many performances. In the theater, Nikolay played dozens of roles in productions of all genres: dramas, musicals, comedies, rock operas. His characters were completely different in character, but always expressive, memorable.

Nikolay Karachentsov began acting in films in 1967. His first films were 'Shtrikhi k portretu V. I. Lenina' (1967), ...I snova may! (1968). Already at the beginning of his film career, Karachentsov played one of his best roles - Busygin in the film adaptation of Aleksandr Vampilov's play Starshiy syn (1976). This role brought him wide fame. Starting from the second half of the 1970s, Karachentsov became one of the most filmed actors, he always performed all the difficult stunts in the films himself.
