- Yoshinori Kanada was born on February 5, 1952 in Nara, Japan. He was a director, known for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001), Akira (1988) and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). He died on July 21, 2009 in Tokyo, Japan.
- He developed a unique, vibrant style of animation, which featured cool exaggerated action poses, unconventional perspectives, and intense lighting effects.
- He was known for deviating significantly from storyboards and putting his own style on animating sequences. He had a knack for packing a lot of movement into a small number of frames and constantly managed to deliver the biggest bang under budget. However, his style often earned him the enmity of animation directors since he was distorting their work and adding to their workload.
- He was inspired to become an animator from watching Hayao Miyazaki's Flying Phantom Ship (1969) as a child. He would later work with Miyazaki on Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), and Miyazaki was so impressed with his work he later brought him on for his later animated films.
