Suzanne Y. Jones is a writer, producer and actor working in film and television.
She has a Bachelor of Arts, with Honors, in Screenwriting and Film from The New School, in New York, and an Masters of Fine Arts in Writing and Producing from Steiner Studios-sponsored The TV Writers Studio through Long Island University-Brooklyn.
She is the writer of the film memoir, "The Jones Twins: Bebop Souls in a Muzak(TM) World," directed by her twin sister, Stephanie Jones. The film takes viewers on a comedic, surrealistic journey to uncover the mysterious backstory and influences of Stephanie and Suzanne, Black, bi-racial female identical twin writer-performers whose hyper-real vaudeville shows electrified ‘90’s NYC theatre spaces. Intertwined with soundbites from notable collaborators and artistic compadres (Kim Wayans, Alva Rogers) who reflect on the Twins’ impact, is a glimpse of their Midwestern, middle-class upbringing by loving Black adoptive parents - and of a birth family they never knew, but could only imagine - until the truth is shockingly revealed.
Suzanne has received development and pitch deals for original series from Universal Kids Network, Sesame Workshop, and Time Studios. She has developed and pitched series to Disney, Thirteen/WNET, Out of the Blue Enterprises
Suzanne was a producer on FXX Network's late night, critically acclaimed comedy series "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell." As a producer People Magazine TV she wrote an animated segment for Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Classic Animation. She was on the Development team at Nuvo TV (now Fuse Media), she collaborated on developing and overseeing comedy and docu-series.
In theatre, Suzanne has collaborated with Stephanie (as performance duo, The Jones Twins), on original performance presented in New York and beyond at theatres including The Public Theatre, Lincoln Center, Largo in Los Angeles, Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point Center, Hartford’s RealArtWays, BAM, for Creative Time and Central Park. The Jones Twins collaborated on the devised fashion show/play "The Collection," presented at Center Stage New York and created and performed "Barbie-cide" for "The Barbie Project" with composer Janice Lowe. They performed their musical memoir about growing up Black and white in America, "The Jones Twins do Bebop Muzak," which combined music, movement, spoken word and comedy, at venues including Aaron Davis Hall, The New School, and as the opening performance for the Smithsonian Institution’s African-American Museum Project.
They received both a Franklin Furnace Performance Archive Emerging Artists Fellowship and a residency at Voice and Vision Theatre’s Envision Retreat at Bard College where they developed "Superstarlet S/Hero Show," subsequently presented in New York at Marquee and 92nd Street Y. At legendary performance space Dixon Place, The Jones Twins curated, performed and produced monthly performance series featuring many well-known performers, musicians and writers. With actress/comedian/writer Kim Wayans, they co-wrote the tween musical "The BFF Club."
The Jones Twins created and performed vocals for "System Noise," screened at Slamdance Film Festival and named NY Independent Film Festival’s Best Experimental Film. The Jones Twins wrote songs for legendary music producer Malcolm McLaren and were created an original work for the CalArts audio art piece "The Lament Project." The Jones Twins’ work is archived through The New Museum of Contemporary Art on archive.org. They have been featured in The New York Times, The Daily News, Newsday, Spin, People Magazine and The Village Voice.
Suzanne was a staff writer and voice actor for No Evil Animation, and has voiced national commercials as a voice artist represented by ICM agency.
