R.V. Jones was born on September 29, 1911 in Herne Hill, London, England, UK. He was married to Vera Cain. He died on December 17, 1997 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK.

Was a junior advisor scientific researcher on loan from the British Air Ministry to MI6 when he became their go-to analyst on Nazi military science.

After his World War II service he became a professor at Aberdeen University.

In 1993 the US Central Intelligence Agency endowed an award in his name for 'scientific acumen applied with art in the cause of freedom" for his work during World War II with MI6 in battling the Germans over the V1 rocket program.
