Biography

Hoppy Jones was born on February 17, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for The Great American Broadcast (1941) and NBC/RCA Experimental Television Demonstration for the Press (1936). He died on October 18, 1944 in New York City, New York, USA.

Elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of The Ink Spots) in 1989 (under the category Early Influences).

Provided the signature "talking bass" vocal for the Ink Spots early hits. Unfortunately, he suffered from epilepsy, which worsened in July of 1944. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and collapsed onstage at the Zanzibar nightclub in NYC on October 18, 1944, and died later at his home.
