Hugh Johnson was born on 25 April 1946 in Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. He was a cinematographer and assistant director, known for The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and G.I. Jane (1997). He died on 4 June 2015 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

In 1994, he was set to make his feature debut as a director of photography on Ridley Scott's film "Hot Zone" before it was cancelled. Instead, he shot Scott's next project, White Squall (1996).
