- Cherie Johnson is an American actress, author, columnist, executive producer, producer, and writer of African American and Puerto Rican descent. Best known for her memorable roles in television classics, Johnson has built a multi-faceted career in entertainment and publishing spanning more than four decades.
Johnson first gained national attention at just eight years old when she starred as "Cherie" on the hit NBC sitcom Punky Brewster, which aired from 1984 to 1988. Her popularity on the series led to her reprising the role in the animated spin-off, where she voiced "Little Cherie" from 1985 to 1987.
She later became widely recognized for portraying "Maxine Johnson" on the iconic sitcom Family Matters. Airing from 1989 to 1998 on ABC and CBS, the series became one of the most successful sitcoms in television history and remains among the longest-running American sitcoms featuring a predominantly African American cast.
In addition to acting, Johnson has made a name for herself as a writer and media personality. She has contributed columns to publications including Dimez Magazine and Glam Couture Magazine, and has authored and self-published several books, including Around the World Twice, Two Different Walks of Life, and Peaches & Cream. Her work often reflects themes of personal growth, relationships, and life experiences.
