- He recorded two album of songs in duet with Frank Sinatra.
- Co-author of the song "Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema" in the original Portuguese), one of the most played and recorded songs ever. The song was first inspired by Helô Pinheiro, a young girl he and poet Vinicius de Moraes used to see passing on Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The first commercial recording of the song was by Brazilian singer Pery Ribeiro in 1962. English lyrics later added, were written by Norman Gimbel.
