Richard Jarnhed

Richard Jarnhed is a director and screenwriter born in Stockholm, Sweden. He began his career in 1990 at United International Pictures (UIP) Sweden and has worked in film and television production since 1993. Prior to directing, he spent several years as a first assistant director, building extensive on-set experience across a wide range of productions. Jarnhed has directed internationally distributed television drama, including Dystopia and Black Lake 2, with his work reaching audiences in more than 40 countries. Working within premium drama and thriller formats, his directing is defined by a visually driven approach and a focus on character and psychological tension. His projects emphasize atmosphere, pacing, and performance, with a strong interest in human behavior under pressure. In addition to directing, Jarnhed is a writer and creator. He created and directed the series Dystopia, has written for television including two series as screenwriter, and has written two novels. Alongside his work in film and television, he has served as a music supervisor on several productions, reflecting a longstanding engagement with music as an integral part of the storytelling process. He is the co-founder of the production company Tulpa Creatives, which he runs together with Simon Kölle.
