Biography

Richard D. James was a production designer and art director, known for Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), Star Trek: Voyager (1995) and Local Hero (1983). He died on November 11, 2024 in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Graduated from R.L. Paschal High School. While later attending Texas Tech University, he learned about production and art direction working at the Casa Mañana Theater in his hometown.

He was the youngest of five siblings. His father, William, sold auto parts and repaired cars, and his mother, Katie, was a homemaker.

After college, James headed for Hollywood and landed a job painting scenery for Disney, then joined NBC.
