- Jamelão was born on May 12, 1913 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was an actor, known for Chega de Saudade (2007), É de Chuá (1958) and Trabalhou Bem, Genival (1955). He died on June 14, 2008 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- At an early age, he began performing in the Mangueira samba school's percussion section. Later, he took up the cavaquinho (a small, 4-stringed guitar), and became a singer.
- He was an important figure in Rio's most traditional samba school, Mangueira. He was their lead singer for many Carnival parades from the 1950s onward.
- Grandfather of Jamelão Netto.
