Biography

Herman Jacobs was born on April 13, 1936 in Deurne, Flanders, Belgium. He was an actor, known for Princess (1969), In kluis (1978) and De geboorte en dood van Dirk Vandersteen jr. (1968). He died on November 6, 2020 in Antwerp, Flanders, Belgium.

During the exhibition Facets of Young Flemish Painting in 1971, organized by the Ministry of Dutch Culture, Mayor Van den Daele of Ghent had work by Jacbos removed from St. Peter's Abbey in advance because it was 'offensive to morals'. This led to a riot in the press.

Jacobs taught at the Municipal Academy for Visual Arts in Herentals.

In 1970, Jacobs was one of the co-founders of the New Colorists.

In 1985, a fire destroyed the building on Antwerp's Raapstraat, where Jacobs had his studio.

Herman H. Jacobs studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1953 to 1962. He continued his studies at the National Higher Institute.
