Born Maria Isaacs into a military family in California. Grew up all
over the Northern part of the United States. Attended the University of
New Hampshire and majored in theater, 1981-1983. Attended Evergreen
State College in 1984 and studied film. Enjoyed many roles in local
amateur and professional theater in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and
Washington. Moved to San Francisco in 1987, danced professionally and
began to work in film. Married to Jason Shankel and named changed to
Maria Isaacs Shankel, with a nickname Sion.
