- Nephew of actor David Knight
- Spent two years working as a circus clown
- Entered the movie industry in a truck - delivering camera equipment to film sets at Pinewood, Elstree and Shepperton Studios and major productions including Superman (1977)
- Changed his birth name from Mark McClure Cowley while working as a circus clown. On being told to perform under "something Italian", he picked the name Innocenti because it was the name of the company that manufactured the iconic Lambretta scooter and because of Visconti's 1976 film 'L'Innocente'.
