He joined the film business in 1912, first as a cinematographer and one year later as a director and screenwriter.

His last cinematical works came in the 20s into being.

From 1913 he realised his first movies as a director.

Many of his movies he made as director were adventure and action movies which were very popular at that time.

After a comprehensive education in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, music and philosophy he began his professional career as an engineer. Beside it he began to write first works as an author.

During the 10s Eugen Illés was also active in his home country Hungary as a movie director.

In 1913 he was asked by Alfred Duskes to work for his newly established production company Literaria film . His contract mentioned a monthly salary of 600 marks plus bonus , i.e. about EUR 3056 or $ 3.455.

Jenö Illés worked for most of his career in the German film industry and is often credited as Eugen Illés.
