- With his first wife Birgit Johansson he had a son named Freddy during the 1950s. Freddy died at the age of 29 in 1986.
- Began suffering health problems during his later years, had a stroke in 1987 and following that he began suffering from aphasia. During the 1990s he got cancer and he finally succumbed to pneumonia in 2005. At that point he was almost completely mute and bedridden at the age of 58.
- Proffesional boxer during the sixties, retired in 1968.
