- Started playing the piano at the age of seven, later adding the violin, but only for a short time.
- At the age of twelve, he began playing the trumpet under the supervision of his grandfather, and in 1950 he was admitted to the conservatory, where his main field was the trumpet.

- After his military service in the late 1950s, he joined the Kamil Hála and Josef Poslední Orchestra and began arranging musical compositions himself.
- In 2005, he received the Artis Bohemiae Amicis (Friends of Czech Art) award from the Ministry of Culture for the dissemination of Czech culture in the world.
