Biography

Gary Hutzel was born on November 4, 1955 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He is known for Battlestar Galactica (2004), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). He was married to Catherine Hutzel. He died on March 3, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

On March 19, 2016, the Hutzel family held a memorial service for him at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Newhall, California.

Studied mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan.

In a eulogy, the Los Angeles Times wrote that, "His own artistic talent showed through his ability to create alien worlds and landscapes that were unparalleled in television. Motion picture quality work was his standard, not the exception. Always a perfectionist, he set the bar very high on all projects, even the smallest.".

Gary Hutzel received 4 Emmy Awards and 6 Visual Effects Society Awards for his work in television programs.
