Biography

Versatile American actor and voice actor, in Hollywood from the mid-'70s. Hutton is perhaps best remembered for his regular appearances as Dr. Ron Welch in the medical sitcom Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989) and in several episodes of the legal drama series JAG (1995) as Lt. Cmdr. Alan Mattoni. Himself the son of an Air Force officer, Hutton was a graduate of Seton Hall University in New Jersey and served in the U.S Navy before realizing his ambition to become an actor. At one time homeless and out of funds, he unsuccessfully auditioned many times before at last making his breakthrough in 1983 (ironically playing an air force officer in the sci-fi feature Wavelength (1983)). Having established his credentials, he acted on the stage in the Los Angeles area, including a role as Brutus in Julius Caesar at the 1998 Shakespeare Festival. His many and diverse television guest spots encompassed roles in Remington Steele (1982), L.A. Law (1986), Murphy Brown (1988), Babylon 5 (1993), 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996), Monk (2002), House (2004) and Bosch (2014). On the big screen, his portrayals ranged from an LAPD detective in L.A. Heat (1989) to a Klingon guard in Star Trek: Generations (1994). Much in demand as a voice actor, Hutton worked on animated features like Hotel Transylvania (2012), as well as on a number of major video games. A regular in TV soaps, he also showed up in multiple episodes of Tribes (1990), The Bold and the Beautiful (1987) and General Hospital (1963).

His first wife was actress and stand-up comedienne Patricia Bethune, his second (since June 2001), the voice actress Bridget Hoffman.
