His mother was the opera singer Juliëtte Hulsman (1911 - 1999).

Grandson of actress Hetty Ruijs (1889-1973).

His uncle was actor Cor Ruys (1889 - 1952). He was the twin brother of his grandmother Hetty Ruijs.
