- Per the naturalization papers, Hugo already had an alias: Mauritz Axel Hugo, but he requested it be changed when he arrived in the US to Mauritz Ekelof Hugo. A "migration card" indicates this was officially done by July 3, 1939.
- According to his naturalization papers, he came over to the US on the S. S. Gripsholm, arriving on January 9, 1929. The ship's passenger log on Dec. 29, 1928 lists his profession as interpreter, speaking both English and Swedish.
