Sean Hughes was born on November 10, 1965 in London, England, UK. He was an actor and writer, known for The Commitments (1991), The Last Detective (2003) and Sean's Show (1992). He died on October 16, 2017 in Highgate, London, England, UK.

He was the youngest ever winner of the Perrier comedy award.

Wrote poetry and had two novels published.

Brought up in Dublin from the age of 6, he made his first public appearance in the city as a stand-up comedian.

Hughes was originally cast in a small part in Terry Ryan's film Puckoon (2002). However, when the actor cast as the lead did not turn up on the first day of principal photography or the second, Hughes heroically agreed to take over the lead role, even though he did not think he was right, because he did not want to see so many actors and crew either stood down without pay until they found a star or worse, the film be abandoned.
