- Andrew Huggett has enjoyed a varied musical career. His parents were musicians and emigrated to Canada from England in the mid-50s. The oldest of 4 children, Andrew, and his siblings, were all taught various instruments by their parents. In 1969 they formed a touring musical group called the Huggett Family, which toured Canada, Europe, and the United States, performing contemporary folk music and early music on a wide variety of modern and period instruments.
Andrew wrote his first composition when he was 11 as part of a school music assignment. At the age of 12, he started to play guitar, and at 15 started writing songs of his own and started putting poems written by his father to music.
Two years later, these songs were brought to the attention of Beatles producer Sir George Martin who signed the Huggett Family to a three-year recording contract.
Over the 13-year tenure of the Huggett Family, the group released five record albums. Two were produced by Sir George Martin, two by the Huggetts themselves, and one by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
After the Huggett Family, in 1983, Andrew Huggett started his own music production company, Huggett Music Productions, in Ottawa, Canada. He had many successes writing songs, jingles, and music for various projects, composing under the company banner. Amongst many awards, he won a Gold Award at the New York Film Festival in 1989.
In 1993 he joined GAPC, a private Ottawa-based TV production company where he managed the sound department. While at GAPC, he wrote thousands of compositions for many different purposes.
He currently has over 3,000 registered broadcast credits with SOCAN and BMI.
Andrew Huggett retired from GAPC in 2020 but continues to work selectively on music projects.
He lives just outside Toronto.
