  • Erich Hoyt is an author and research scientist. Besides his brief acting career, he composed music for 7 films including the feature, The Keeper, starring Christopher Lee. His books, since 1981, include Orca: The Whale Called Killer; The Earth Dwellers; Insect Lives; Whales, Dolphins & Porpoises; Seasons of the Whale, Creatures of the Deep, three of which have been optioned for feature films. His books have been translated into 15 languages and published in 25 countries. He was Associate Producer on The Last Ocean (2012). He has written more than 500 articles and essays for The New York Times, The Sunday (London) Times, National Geographic and others. Twice a James Thurber Writer-in-Residence (1992, 2000) and a Vannevar Bush Fellow at MIT and Harvard University (1985-86), he is Research Fellow with Whale and Dolphin Conservation (2004- ) and co-director of the Far East Russia Orca Project (1999- ). He has lectured widely in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, France, Germany and other countries. A dual US-Canadian citizen, since 2013, he has lived in Dorset, England, with his wife and 4 children.
