Kathryn Howell is an American actress known for a wide variety of character roles in film and television. She has played grieving Moms (Criminal Minds (2005), The Zodiac (2005), Cry in the Wild: The Taking of Peggy Ann (1991)), was terrified by a giant flying peach (James and the Giant Peach (1996)), and snatched at gunpoint by Sean Penn (The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004). She has been a drug addict, a homeless woman, and John Heard's alcoholic ex-wife (Blown Away (1988)). On the lighter side Kathryn has had the privilege of portraying a backwoods psychic (Ray McKinnon's Chrystal (2004)), a conjoined twin in a 1930's freak show (Tales from the Crypt (1989)), and a sassy diner waitress opposite Vincent D'Onofrio and Gregory Hines (Good Luck (1996)).

A life long actor, Kathryn has worked extensively on stage, holds a BFA in Theatre from UNC-Chapel Hill, and received a full scholarship for advanced study at American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. Kathryn is a long-time member of SAG, AFTRA (SAG-AFTRA), and AEA. She received her AEA card at New York's Vivian Beaumont Theatre.

Lost her twin sister, Margaret Howell, on July 26, 2000 in Los Angeles, California, USA. She died of ovarian cancer. They both worked together in Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers (1972) and in one episode of Tales from the Crypt (TV Series).
Some of her stage performances include: The Odd Couple (female version), Florence Unger - Mason Street Theatre, The Woolgatherer, Rose - San Jose Stage Company, The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, Mrs. Winemiller - San Francisco Rep, Safe House by Nicholas Kazan, Tink - Berkeley Stage Company.
Two of her films, Chrystal (2004) and The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004) screened the same year at the AFI Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Theatre Companies Kathryn has performed with include: Repertory Theatre of Lincoln Center, La Mama ETC, Berkeley Stage Company, San Francisco Rep, San Jose Stage Company, Magic Theatre, Eureka Theatre, Mason Street Theatre, Eastenders, Gumption Theatre, Carolina Playmakers.
Was hired by George Lucas to read the role of Shmi in the screen test for three finalists for role of Anakin in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999).
