Ed Horwitz's entry into the industry was as personal assistant to Robert Altman. He served in this capacity at Altman's Lion's Gate Films for 2 years which encompassed 8 feature films. From 1980 to 1987, Ed worked in a variety of positions at The Landsburg Company. He was Production Manager or Associate Producer on feature films, telefilms, television series, documentaries and specials. His credits include five seasons on That's Incredible! (1980), one season on ABC's _"People Do the Craziest Things" (1984)_ , the feature film Jaws 3-D (1983), 130 episodes of the syndicated drama _"True Confessions" (1985)_ , several documentaries and the Disney telefilm, The Parent Trap II (1986). Before joining Cosgrove/Meurer, Ed was nominated for an Emmy Award as Supervising Producer on Group W's "The Wil Shriner Show" and was Co-Producer of "The Rich Hall Show" and The New Homeowner's Guide to Happiness (1987), for HBO. He also produced a NBC comedy special with the Zucker Brothers and Disney entitled Our Planet Tonight (1987). While spending four seasons as Supervising Producer on NBC's Unsolved Mysteries (1987), he received four Emmy nominations. From May 1988 to December of 1991, Ed was Vice President, Production of Cosgrove/Meurer Productions. In addition to his duties on "Unsolved Mysteries", he was Supervising Producer on several other Cosgrove/Meurer productions including a series of six specials entitled Story Behind the Story (1991). He also produced "Are You Safe?, a National Test on Crime Prevention" where he worked with Don Mischer; "The National Love & Sex Test", "The Secret Identity of Jack the Ripper", the CBS series "Small Talk" and a dramatic pilot for NBC. From September 1993 to December 1994, Horwitz was developing and preparing for the launch of Last Call (1994), the late night series syndicated by MCA/Universal Television. Horwitz and Tartikoff served as Executive Producers on the series, as they did on the much acclaimed pilot. From 1993 to 1995 Ed worked closely with _'Brandon Tartikoff'_ under an overall development and Executive Producer deal for Moving Target Productions and New World Entertainment. While there he completed production, as Co-Executive Producer, of a one-hour dramatic pilot for FOX entitled "Love Is Strange". From July 1995 to July l996, Horwitz was instrumental in the creation, development, sale and production of a number of new projects including a strip pilot with Arnold Shapiro, "LadyLaw", hosted by Marcia Clark; "Divorce Me" with C-3 and FOX; "Opportunity Knocks" with Disney; and "Paybacks" for New World. Horwitz also served as Co-Executive Producer on U.S. Customs Classified (1995), 26 one hour syndicated episodes, for Stephen J. Cannell, distributed by New World Entertainment In addition, he was Executive Producer of a pilot for FOX entitled "True Life" and Producer of an "Unsolved Mysteries" 90 Minute Live Special for NBC. Horwitz was Co-Executive Producer of 44 hours of the infotainment series, _"How'd They Do That?" (1996)_ for The Learning Channel; a Fall Preview special with Seventeen Magazine for the WB and Executive Consultant for a one hour special edition of "Extra". His first efforts in his overall production deal with Warner Bros. and Telepictures was as Co-Executive Producer of a pilot for CBS entitled "American Justice". He also developed a one hour dramatic series for CBS for Lorimar. Ed served as Supervising Producer on NBC's hit primetime series, Meet My Folks (2002). He recently wrapped up six years under an overall development and production deal with Warner Bros. and Telepictures, where he most recently was Sr. Supervising Producer of elimiDATE (2001), a hit late night syndicated dating show and 13 network primetime episodes of Elimidate Deluxe (2001) for WB. Prior to "elimiDATE", Horwitz served as Co-Executive Producer of the late night syndicated game show, Street Smarts (2000), and Senior Supervising Producer of the late night strip, Change of Heart (1998). In addition Ed was Executive Production Consultant on the daytime syndicated talker, Queen Latifah Show (1999) and Executive Producer of Rosie O'Donnell's week of shows from the 1999 and 2000 Grammys. From 2003 to 2016 Ed served as Executive Vice President, Production & International Distribution at LMNO Productions and LMNO Cable Group. He oversaw international distribution of LMNO titles in addition to heading up production on all of LMNO's network, cable and syndicated shows. He moved on to become Head of Production and Co-Executive Producer of The Talk (2010), the CBS Daytime Talk Show. As of July of 2024, Ed is currently Head Of Prodction on the daytime, syndicated talkshow, The Jennifer Hudson Show. Ed has 3 sons. Aaron Horwitz, a graduate from USC School of Cinema and Television, and Andy Horwitz, a graduate of the film program at Brooks Institute. Aaron and Andy occasionally work together on personal film projects. Their brother 'Jay Horwitz', Ed's youngest son is smart enough to stay out of the business. Ed's father is retired film financier Lew Horwitz. Ed lives in his dream house in the Hollywood Hills with his husband, Jerel Wilhort.
