Jeanne Herry was born on April 19, 1978 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France. She is a writer and actress, known for In Safe Hands (2018), Number One Fan (2014) and All Your Faces (2023).

Mother is actress Miou-Miou, father is singer/actor Julien Clerc.

Graduated from the CNSAD (Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique de Paris) in 2002

Half-sister of Angèle Herry-Leclerc.

[press conference for Another Day (2026) at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival] I didn't want to repeat my two previous films – In Safe Hands (2018) and All Your Faces (2023) – where I'd worked in quite a similar manner on both. I'd done a lot of research, I had studied the general in order to create the specific elements of the fiction and the characters. I wanted to make a bit of a turn, into something with all the dimensions of a project - the writing, the shooting etc. It occurred to me that I could do the portrait of a woman who I would follow in all her movements, all the dimensions of her being. A young woman who is an actress, an alcoholic – why not? Because addiction is a phenomenon, a mechanism I'm interested in and that really scares me. And when things scare me what I do is to make a film to try and understand myself and others. I didn't do much research; as it happens, I was very lucky to quickly meet a young woman, who is an alcoholic, and who told me about her past and how she became an alcoholic up until the time she quit the habit, and she told me about her entire life – it was riveting. There was material for a film everywhere – she's a strong character, she wasn't an actress, so I had to merge things; I took elements from her biography and I merged that with what I wanted to say about the profession of an actor. And then I had to plunge into the actual writing, which was messy, but there you have it! The idea was to work on a different staging, work on a profusion of sets, of people, lots of extras, lots of movements, so as not to do what I'd already done in my previous films.

[Cannes press conference for Another Day (2026)] Balance reflects life. Life is, by its very nature, tragicomic; obviously some lives are more difficult than others, some things are more difficult to overcome than others. As I said earlier, my plan was to do something different; I'd made films which were emotionally heavy and more dramatic than comic, and I wanted to try and do something more comic this time. Garance is really the film; she's very funny herself, we tried to have a character who's amusing, funny, jokes around, yet alcohol makes her do silly things but apart from alcohol, she's someone who's deeply amusing and lots of fun to be with. A film takes a long time to write and shoot and I couldn't spend three years in darkness, I needed to have fun myself sometimes. I feel that to be able to laugh at a film frees up a lot of emotions - it relaxes you, disarms you and you can therefore delve much deeper into certain emotions. It's great if you found the film funny – that was the goal.
