Biography

Erika Helmke was born on April 15, 1908 in Berlin, Germany. She was an actress, known for The Lake Calls (1933), Träumerei (1944) and Wenn Männer verreisen (1940). She died on November 26, 2002 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Blonde supporting actress and singer of the 1930's and early 40's. Studied acting under Max Reinhardt and had leading roles on stage in plays by Gilbert & Sullivan and Brecht (as Polly in the 'Threepenny Opera'). Moved to Canada with her artist husband Herbert Dassel.

Erika Helmke only appeared in one more movie after the war called "Stadtmeier und Landmeier" (1948), afterwards she retired from the film business.

Erika Helmke married 1931 poster artist Herbert Dassel (1903 - 2001) and spent the last decades of her life in Canada.
