Albert Harris was born in London on February 13, 1916 and moved to New York in 1938 where he gained a Doctor of Music degree at New York College of Music. He moved to Los Angeles in 1942, became musical director at NBC for several years followed by film work. Also a respected music lecturer, Harris retired from film and television work in 1990.

He married Diane, a New Zealand lady, in California in 1986, and the couple retired to Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand in 1992.
