  • Cody Harrington, an effects technical director employed at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville California since 2009, is a Houdini (SESI) artist, and musician, with extensive production experience in live action feature films, practical visual effects, broadcast television graphics, and interactive media.

    Projects at Pixar span ten years with work on many feature and short films: Toy Story 3 (2010), Cars 2 (2011), Brave (2012), The Blue Umbrella (2013), Monsters University (2013), Lava (2014), Inside Out (2015), The Good Dinosaur (2015), Sanjay's Super, Team (2015), Piper (2016), Finding Dory (2016), Cars 3 (2017), Incredibles 2 (2018), Sea Rider (2018 - theme park division), Smash and Grab (2019), Onward (2019).

    Previous Digital projects include: Sony Pictures Imageworks (2004-2009), Culver City, CA., specialty: 3d volumetric atmospheric and elemental effects (clouds, tornadoes, hurricanes, avalanches, snow, dust, rain, and fire), as seen in feature films such as: Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs (2010), Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" (2009), I am Legend, Beowulf (2007), Spiderman 3 (Sandman team,SPI, 2006), (Triple-X, StarTrek Nemesis, Daredevil, Stealth, and The Day After Tomorrow -- Digital Domain, Venice, CA).

    Previous Feature Film projects: Boss Film Effects, Marina Del Rey, CA. (1986), with supervisors Richard Edlund, Bill Neil, Neil Krepala, Thaine Morris, Mat Beck, Mark Stetson, Pat Mclung, Larz Anderson, and Pete Romano (Hydroflex), creating practical magic in the pre-digital twilight of optically composited 65mm motion control based effects. Film credits from that era include: The Abyss, Date with an Angel, Die Hard, Leonard V1, Vibes, Weeds, At Close Range, Earthstar Voyager, (King Kong Lives, Manhunter, Year Of The Dragon, Cats Eye, Firestarter -- DEG studios)

    Cody transitioned from practical to digital effects after working with James Cameron on "The Abyss" (1988), training in computer graphics at Apple Computer's multi-media lab in Chicago (1989), then joining ABC On Air Promo dept., Los Angeles (1993), creating hundreds of on-air promotions and show titles for national syndication under the supervision of VP. Barbara Eddy. Cody joined a San Francisco based interactive television, and web development startup (1996), prototyping interactive 3d models of how data would be visualized, and content delivered on the internet, then moved onto Digital Domain, Venice, CA (2001) as an effects animator.

    Cody has worked directly with these cinematographers on location: Alex Thompson, Mikael Solomon, James Cameron, Pete Romano, Ron Garcia, Walt Lloyd, Reed Smoot, Jan Weinke, James Bartle, Alec Mills, Juan Ruiz Anchia, Dante Spinotte, Jack Cardiff, Guiseppe Russolini, Mike Fash, Kelvin Pike, Bill Neil, John Fante.

    Over the years Cody has also contributed to Disneys Imagineering group (R&D), consulted and lectured for various organizations (Apple Computer, Mirador/e2 productions), has been on the advisory board of Stanford University's Academy for New Media (Philip Gibson, director). He has also produced numerous documentary-styled promos and interviews of educators for Apple Computer and Stanford University. He has presented on behalf of Apple Computer for key educational accounts at industry conferences, universities, and user groups (AFCI,Quicktime Live Panel on New Media Tools, Macworld Panel, New Paradigms in Content, New Media Conference Univ. of CA. MB, College of Santa Fe Digital Media School, CUE conference, NECC, others.) He received his radio, television, and film degree from the University of Houston in 1978. In 1986 he won the festival Gold Award : Cinematography Co-director.. for Best Art Film, "Speedstreet" Houston Intl Film Festival.
