Biography

Harry Hardt was born on August 4, 1899 in Pola, Küstenland, Austria-Hungary [now Pula, Istria, Croatia]. He was an actor and director, known for It Happened on July 20th (1955), The Making of a King (1935) and Merkwürdige Lebensgeschichte des Friedrich Freiherrn von der Trenck (1973). He died on November 14, 1980 in Vienna, Austria.

On stage from 1919 and in films the following year. A popular and extremely busy character player, he was generally cast as authority figures: police inspectors, soldiers and aristocrats.

Hardt came from an aristocratic family with a strong military tradition. Deferring to his father's wishes, he dropped out of art history studies to undergo officer training at a military academy. However, after World War I, he went his own way and embarked on an acting career instead.
